Why the Cardinals will win the Super Bowl
Turns out the Cardinals didn't win the Super Bowl, but I'm curious what folks think about this year's outlook for the red birds. Specifically in terms of fantasy football I'm wondering about the RB battle between Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells. I have Hightower in an extremely deep keeper league and I'm debating whether or not to keep him.
I ran some numbers on the Fantasy Football Custom Player Rater at www.FantasyStatHead.com and it has Hightower and Wells ranked about equal based on current projections. Also of interest on the Cardinals the player rater has Boldin and Fitzgerald both in the top 5 or 6 WR's for my league settings and Warner in the top 4 QB's. Will their offense be as good as advertised this year, or will they suffer from the Super Bowl loser hangover?

Early bird fantasy baseball -- 2008's fantasy bums, Part 2
For those who are interested, there is another fantasy sports site that's starting their 9th season with a new site and new game engine called ProNight where you pick the winning teams and if you get all of them correct you could win the grand prize which is incremental, meaning the more players that participate the greater the prize.
They also have a consolation prize that grows in total the more players join which is cool.
If your looking for a league type game then they have NHL ProLeague which runs the entire NHL season and features a playoff component which members must qualify. This is a very cool game since it does not involve picking players, just winning teams.
For more information go to
www.pronetsports.com
The first NFL ProNight game is free and there will be a cash prize for the best player so check it out at no cost to you.

AL Stock Watch -- Don't write a fat check to get K-Rod in 2009
Hi,
Once again after crash Nifty has started going up. Now we suggest all rises should be used as an opportunity to exit old long positions.
This bull run will continue for few more days. Overall market is in bearish mood as in medium term its just a small rally due to short covering
and result season.
Happy Trading,

Baseball by the Numbers -- Bay, Youkilis on list of guys we predict for a 2009 decline
Jason Bay's lifetime OPS is .899, so why would any idiot predict .701.
You make zero sense. Bay got that .899 playing in cavrenous PNC Park. His numbers at Fenway will be much higher, playing there an entire season and adjusting to AL pitching.

NFL Week 3 Scouting Notebook
I would like to take a moment and quote a statement that Michael Salfino made on the week 3 NFL scouting notebook and I quote.
"The Patriots look to be without RB LaMont Jordan (foot); he's listed as doubtful after not practicing all week. Even worse, RB Laurence Maroney (shoulder) was held out of practice most of the week and only practiced on a limited basis Friday, making him questionable for Sunday. There is a very good chance he won't even touch the ball, making Sammy Morris a very attractive play against a terrible Miami defense."
WOW that last sentence hurts, hurts a lot. Lets remember any team can beat any other team on any giving Sunday. How true!!!

Baseball by the Numbers -- Dice-K, and other charmed pitchers
A simple explanation for Dice-K's numbers this year may simply be that his pitches have a lot of movement, evident if you watch him pitch. Movement makes it hard for the pitcher to throw strikes consistently, resulting in a lot of walks, hit batsmen, wild pitches and lots of base runners. Movement also makes it hard for hitters to make solid contact and results in a high strand rate. Certainly, Dice-K has enough command to throw some of his pitches for strikes, but his pitching style is to rely on a wide pitch selection to keep hitters off-balance, including some breaking balls that are intended to break out of the strike zone. He might have better command if he were to limit his pitch selection, but perhaps Dice-K is not confident that he can dominate using just fastballs and sliders. Mixing in change-ups, cutters and curve balls means he has to maintain five or more pitches. It does not make sense to "normalize" his numbers to reach a 4.89 ERA, when his numbers follow a consistent pattern from start to start (and generally involve a sub-3 ERA). He’s also been consistent in allowing ZERO hits in 15 bases loaded situations to date. That can't all be luck (although there have been sacrifice flies, hit by pitches, etc. with bases loaded).

I'm not sure I would sell so quickly on Randy Ross. Cassel may fall in love with him. Check out our NFL Notes at http://simplesportsnow.com. Thanks.
